Confirming Clarence Thomas to the United States Supreme Court was a mistake, one that may reverberate across the nation for decades to come. The hard-earned rights afforded to vulnerable minorities and women, once classified as inalienable, will soon be gutted or completely repealed, dreams of attending the best colleges will be scuttled for many young people of color, the environment will be degraded further, immigrants will be criminally mistreated, racism will be tolerated, and corruption and dark money will pervade our politics unchecked. As a member of the Supreme Court, Clarence Thomas has advocated for policies that harm the majority and protect the privileged few.

Unlike his distinguished predecessors, some of them conservative, Thomas has not modulated his decision-making with the passage of time. He continues to adhere to an unusually “strict” interpretation of the United States Constitution, an enduring document that is corrupted by the powerful to subjugate millions, allowing no leeway to account for a rapidly diversifying society.
